Welcome aboard "Valkyrie", one of the early examples of this beloved Sparkman and Stephens design from the Nauticat yard of Siltala Yachts in Finland. With her raised salon pilothouse with interior steering station, she is the perfect Northwest Passage cruiser, ready to take her crew all the way to Glacier Bay and points in between in warm, dry comfort.
Spacious and Elegant Interior Valkyrie has appointments for six in three cabins. The owner's stateroom aft features a queen size berth and head with shower in the passage way down from the salon. Across from this head compartment is a small cabin with over/under single bunks but the lower bunk has been used for a laundry machine and storage Her raised main salon is surrounded by large tempered glass windows that allow generous light and 270 degrees of unfettered visibility. She has a comfy table in here with wrap around seating opposite a captain's chair situated behind her interior steering station. Engine controls and instrumentation are located here. Stepping down and forward, she has a large u-shaped galley with sinks, 3-burner stove/w oven, a top loading reefer and a built in front loading reefer. On the starboard side, she has countertops, pantry storage and drawers containing all her galley accouterments. Going forward, there is a second head compartment on the port side opposite a tall hanging locker, then through the bulkhead to the generous v-berth. All the fabrics in the boat are in excellent condition as is all the teak furniture. There are many opening portlights and overhead hatches for light and ventilation.
Hull, Bottom and Deck In 2005, Valkyrie's bottom was peeled back to undamaged substrate and rebuilt with three full layers of cloth impregnated with vinylester resin. There were then applied four coats of epoxy barrier coat. She has new bottom paint applied in January 2024, black Biocop. It is in flawless condition. Her hull topsides have very few blemishes and no blisters, is expected to be the original white gelcoat. Her decks are the original teak decks she was built with and as such, are ready for some new applications of TLC, but they are intact and have no soft zones.
Sail Handling Valkyrie is ketch rigged with an inner forestay. This type of rig breaks up the square footage of the sail area and allows her crew to adjust her canvas to whatever weather conditions she encounters. This is advantageous for short handed crews or couples. Both her headsails are bent onto high quality Scheafer furlers.
Auxiliary Power, Full Disclosure Valkyrie was equipped in 2006 with an OSSA Powerlite 25 kw generator set and an OSSA Powerlite 35 hp electric motor. In the few weeks since this vessel has been on our list, it has come to our attention that this hybrid system is NOT viable. She will need a full repower. It is for this reason her asking price is half or less what one might expect to pay for one of her sisterships. Estimates for a new engine installed in the 85 to 100HP range run in the 50k to 80k range.
Other Systems, Full Disclosure Valkyrie is a genuine dual steering station vessel. Her steering system is hydraulic. It is presently in need of service and repair and is not online. She is equipped with an Espar heating system that has been serviced, but the lift pump and filter still need to be put back in place and the system tested. Her galley refrigeration needs to be serviced to be brought back online.
Valkyrie is a high end vessel built by a world class yard and designed by sailing royalty. Her hull and rig are in good condition and ready to sail. Her sails are in good condition. We understand that she is going to require a considerable investment to bring her back to the kind of yacht she has once been. If you love Nauticats and have the patience and budget to invest in a labor of love, Valkyrie is a must-see. Please schedule an appointment.
